Lake Superior Hospice Donates
January 25, 2010

MARQUETTE - In response to the recent catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, Lake Superior Hospice has donated needed medical supplies for earthquake victim relief. On Friday, staff members from Lake Superior Hospice delivered cases of wound dressings to the office of Daniel Hardie, MD, who is among a group of medical professionals from the Marquette area headed to Haiti this week to volunteer at a medical facility in order to aid those who have been injured in the quake.
“We wanted to do something in appreciation and support of the efforts of people in our local community, like Dan Hardie, who are doing important work to aid in the relief,” said Larry Skendzel, MD, Medical Director for Lake Superior Hospice. “The wound dressing supplies had been donated to us, and we passed them on to another needy source.”
In another charitable endeavor, Lake Superior Hospice staff members took up a collection among themselves for Beacon House in Marquette. Beacon House is an independent non-profit organization that provides a safe, supportive and compassionate setting for patients and their loved ones receiving medical care in Marquette. The food items will help stock the complimentary food pantry that is available to Beacon House guests.
